Eligibility Criteria
a. Veteran Status Verification
Nominee must meet the definition of a “United States Veteran” as defined by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
Nominee must have received an Honorable Discharge from any branch or department of uniformed service to the nation or state.
Nominee must not be actively serving in any uniformed service capacity.
II. Nomination Submission
a. Nomination Package Requirements
i. Completed SCMVHF Nomination Form
ii. Proof of honorable discharge (DD-214 or equivalent
documentation)
iii. Supporting documentation relevant to one or more of the induction categories
iv. Letters of recommendation (optional but encouraged)
b. Submission Timeline
Nominations are accepted annually with a defined submission deadline set by the SCMVHF Board of Regents
III. Verification Process
a. Initial Review
i. The SCMVHF Board of Regents will verify veteran status and discharge classification.
ii. Ensure nominees meet eligibility criteria regarding active service status.
b. Notification of Eligibility
Nominees and nominators will be informed once eligibility verification is
IV. Evaluation Criteria & Categories
Eligible nominees will be evaluated against all other nominees in one of the following four categories:
1. Medal of Honor Recipient.
2. Outstanding Valor in Combat.
3. Exceptional Service to the Nation/Community during Active Duty or Active National Guard/Reserve Service.
4. Exceptional Service to their Community following Honorable Discharge.
Each nominee will be assessed on the merit, impact, and significance of their service and contributions.
V. Selection & Induction
a. Board of Regents Evaluation
A comprehensive, comparative review of all nominees in each category.
Final selection of inductees will be determined by majority vote.
b. Announcement of Inductees
Inductees will be publicly announced by the Chair of the Board of Directors and recognized by the entire Board during the annual SCMVHF Induction Ceremony.
VI. Nomination Cycle Duration
Nominees not selected during their initial year of nomination will remain in active consideration for an additional two consecutive nomination cycles (three years total).
After this period, the nomination package may be resubmitted for consideration in future cycles without limitation.
