CRITERIA
Eligibility for nomination requires the nominee to have either been retired or honorably discharged from uniformed military service to the United States of America and/or the State of South Carolina (see Qualifications page). Additionally, nominees must not be actively serving in any branch or department of the United States Department of Defense, nor actively serving in any South Carolina National Guard or state defense force unit at the time of nomination.
Once a nominee’s veteran status is verified by the South Carolina Military Veterans Hall of Fame (SCMVHoF) Board of Regents, their contributions will be evaluated against other nominees in one of the following categories:
1. Recipient of the Medal of Honor.
2. Demonstrated outstanding valor in combat.
3. Provided exceptional service to the United States of America or their community while on active duty (Regular armed forces), or while actively serving in the National Guard or Reserve components.
4. Provided exceptional service to their community following honorable discharge from military service.
Nominees not selected for induction during the initial year of nomination will remain under consideration for an additional two consecutive nomination cycles, ensuring a thorough three-year evaluation period. After this period, any veteran may be re-nominated for consideration in subsequent cycles indefinitely.
The SCMVHoF is dedicated to ensuring that the stories of these exceptional veterans are remembered, celebrated, and inspire future generations to serve with honor, integrity, and pride.
